Hub to Hub Network

The Hub to Hub (H2H) Network is a collaboration of Iowa’s wholesale food hubs working together to efficiently source, sell, and move local food across Iowa.

H2H makes it easier for wholesale buyers to access source-identified local products and partners with producers to grow the market and strengthen the logistics behind it.

About the Hub to Hub Network

Connecting Iowa’s Food System—One Route at a Time

The Hub to Hub Network (H2H) is a collaborative effort between Iowa food hubs to move local food more efficiently across the state.

By linking food hubs and strategically placed storage facilities (called nodes), the network makes it easier for customers to order large volumes of diverse local products from a single source and helps producers reach new markets without the cost and hassle of long-distance transport.

Each week, products travel along coordinated North/South and East/West routes, allowing hubs to fill supply gaps, share inventory, and offer more complete product lists to buyers. The H2H Network also provides affordable delivery services for farmers and food businesses, making it easier to grow their customer base and streamline distribution.

The H2H Network was born from a simple but urgent challenge: How can Iowa’s food hubs work together to better serve farmers and customers alike?

Members of the Food Hub Managers Working Group (FHMWG) teamed up to build a shared system for wholesale distribution. With early grant support, they piloted inter-hub routes in real time, laying the groundwork for today’s connected network of hubs, nodes, and partners. Along the way, they’ve maintained a strong focus on food safety, cold chain integrity, and practical logistics.

How It Started:

What’s Next:

Thanks to the 2024 RFSI grant, the H2H Network is expanding in new and exciting ways. The current partnership includes four wholesale food hubs—Camp Creek Organic, Farm Table Delivery, Field to Family, and Iowa Food Hub—along with Kitchen Sync Strategies, Local Foods Marketplace, and Iowa Valley RC&D.

Together, the team is exploring innovations in pricing, logistics, and administrative coordination—and investing in a shared sales professional to grow wholesale demand across the state.
